The concrete provided by Hanson Premix contains GGBS. GGBS (Ground Granulated Blastfurnace Slag) is a replacement for Portland Cement finding applications in all types of concretes, renders, screeds and mortars and with excellent environmental credentials. For every tonne of cement replaced by GGBS, approximately one tonne of CO2 emissions is eliminated resulting in current UK annual reductions of approximately :-

2 million tonnes of CO2 emissions,
2 billion KiloWatt hours of energy,
3 million tonnes of mineral extraction,
2 million tonnes of landfill.

With typical cement replacement levels of 50%, and as much as 90% used in some applications the positive contribution to the environment is highly significant while the long term durability and chemical resistance of products containing GGBS greatly improves with increasing GGBS content.
