Micronal
phase change materials
Construction materials which have been modified by means
of BASF's Micronal® PCM phase change materials acquire
an active temperature compensation mechanism which ensures
ideal room conditions, particularly in summer. Owing to
their unique microencapsulation technology they can be integrated
invisibly into the most diverse of construction materials.
At the core of each microscopically small plastic sphere
is a wax storage medium. When the temperature rises, the
wax melts and the phase-change material absorbs heat. When
the temperature drops, the wax solidifies, and heat is emitted.
During the phase change, the temperature remains constant

‘The C60 house is one of a number
of experimental construction
projects that BASF,
The Chemical Company,
is involved in around the world.
We want to demonstrate that
simple, cost efficient devices
can lead to more comfort, less
consumption, savings in energy
costs, and reduced emissions
of carbon dioxide, the main
greenhouse gas.’
